This is what happens when I have too much time on my hands.  I look around, have a spontaneous idea, and decide to completely rearrange and “update” our (rental) apartment kitchen.  Without really knowing what I was doing, I grabbed the screwdriver from the closet and started removing a couple kitchen cabinets, adjusting shelf heights, and moving things around.

Before

kitchen makeover

I blame Pinterest, reading far too many home design blogs, and my love of organizing and re-organizingI’m guilty of doing this at my parent’s house too (to the frustration of the rest of my family, who can never seem to be able to find what they are looking for).  Oops!

Even though we have only lived in our current apartment for a little more than 6 months, I have to admit, I tend to have moments where I end up changing everything around, whether its to better the flow of the kitchen or simply satisfy a craving for a change of some kind.

I am happy to say that despite a brief moment where I thought I would end up regretting my decision, as well as one more moment when I thought my impatience would surely result in a broken shelf lock (thankfully a Google search saved me from that fate), I am completely thrilled with the final result.

After

kitchen makeover

For starters, it makes emptying the dishwasher that much easier (a win-win situation).  But I am most excited about gaining a new space to showcase a small portion of my ever-growing cookbook collection.

Having them within an arm’s reach in the kitchen not only motivates me to take more advantage of all they have to offer, but also brings in some fun color and character into the space.  I love it.  It almost feels like a new kitchen!

This update is definitely going to be a keeper…

P.S.  If that wasn’t already enough, I then engaged in another one of my favorite past times: rearranging every item and appliance on our kitchen countertop.  Yes, I’m weird like that.
